Claudia Rankine

This inaugurates a series of posts mainly addressed to participants in ANTH 513.

Claudia Rankine is a poet noted for her engagement with questions of race and racism, in particular in her work Citizen, which received critical attention and widespread readership. Her just published Just Us (Graywolf Press) -which I haven't read yet- is a sustained reflection on whiteness, written in what some reviewers describe as an anthropological or sociological approach. Reviews I have read are hesitant. In particular, this piece in the Atlantic seems to suggest Rankine does not go far enough. But her work is worth exploring, at least as a sign of the times.
